Hillary M. NappiAssociate
Hillary M. Nappi is an associate of the Firm and focuses her practice in the areas of criminal defense, commercial litigation, family law, and estate litigation. In addition to her main practice areas, Ms. Nappi helps her clients solve their biggest problems out of the courtroom in a variety of areas - drafting wills, trusts, shareholder agreements, and is a passionate advocate for her clients with various other transactional matters.
While not practicing law, Ms. Nappi volunteers as a graduation coach with Yonkers Partners in Education. As a graduation coach, Ms. Nappi mentors students and focuses on keeping students on track for high school graduation and thinking about options beyond. In her limited free time, Ms. Nappi enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and running. Ms. Nappi is currently in pursuit of being able to run a seven minute mile consistently and is training for a plethora of upcoming charity 5K runs.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Ms. Nappi was born and raised in Yonkers, New York where her parents were the proprietors of a small business. Ms. Nappi's connection to the City of Yonkers is a cornerstone of her personality.
Ms. Nappi earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Pace University's Pleasantville Campus in 2005. In the spring of 2013, Ms. Nappi received her Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law (now the Elisabeth Haub School of Law) at the White Plains, New York campus. Ms. Nappi was a participant in NAAC Moot Court Competition and a member of Pace Law School's Moot Court Board. During law school, Ms. Nappi was also heavily involved in the ABA through its Law Students Division where she was the Second Circuit Lt. Governor for Non-Traditional Law Student Relations from 2011 through 2013.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Nappi spent nine years working at the law offices of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP. While in law school, Ms. Nappi worked as a legal assistant/paralegal to the firm's Chairman, David Boies. After being admitted as an attorney she was promoted to Staff Attorney. As a Staff Attorney Ms. Nappi worked on large complex litigation matters.
Since joining Tilem & Associates, P.C., Ms. Nappi has handled a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. Ms. Nappi's clients have faced charges of negligent homicide, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, sexual abuse, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and driving while under the influence of drugs. Additionally, Ms. Nappi has represented clients in SORA hearings and has assisted clients in petitioning the Court for a downward modification of their sex offender risk assessment level.
Ms. Nappi has also represented clients in the civil arena. Ms. Nappi has successfully represented parents in child support and custody battles in Family Courts from Westchester to Nassau County. She has tried child support cases and has worked tirelessly on settlements that provided a non-custodial parent with equal access and parenting time. Further, she has successfully defended family offense petitions. She has also represented numerous parents in CPS investigations.
Growing up in a close family who had their own business, Ms. Nappi enjoys helping small business owners set up their corporations and protect their business entities. Ms. Nappi has drafted numerous shareholder agreements and assisted local business owners in protecting and defending their interests in court. She has also defended businesses against Federal Class Action suits.
Ms. Nappi is most passionate about the work she does within the Surrogate Court system. Ms. Nappi understands that clients who seek an estate attorney are mourning a loss. Sensitive to that reality, she still utilizes an aggressive litigation technique that allows clients to rest easier knowing that their interests are being protected by someone who cares. Ms. Nappi has helped clients probate estates, contest unfair wills, assert their elective share rights, and protect their interests in a loved one's estate when the decedent failed to leave a will behind. These same clients have then sought Ms. Nappi's assistance in drafting their own wills.ADMISSIONS
Ms. Nappi is admitted to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
